Lower Back Pain

It’s a known fact that almost everyone has experienced lower back pain (LBP) in their life, and there are so many contributing factors and aspects to it that simply cannot be covered all in one post. But I will cover some of the contributing factors and some tips to help you better manage the pain.

Risk factors associated with lower back pain:

  • Age - being over 50

  • Gender - women more than men

  • Obesity/overweight

  • Smoking - strong connection with LBP and sciatica pain

  • Physical work - physical labor jobs

  • Sedentary work - such as drivers and office workers

Preventative tips to help reduce the prevalence of LBP:

  • Wearing good supportive shoes

  • Regular exercise - such as walking, it doesn’t have to be vigorous exercise as long as it’s regular

  • Regular stretching

  • Eating healthy

  • Maintaining good postural alignment

  • Quit smoking if you can

  • Lighten your lifting load when you can

If you’re still struggling and need extra help please have a chat with your physiotherapist and they’ll give you the appropriate help.
